Spey Days Northwest 2009
7th Annual - On the Skagit
For 2009 Spey Days is moving from the Skykomish River where we have held it the last 6 years to the Skagit River. We're tremendously excited about the new location at Howard Miller Steelhead Park on the banks of the Skagit in Rockport, Washington. This is a perfect facility with a lot of river frontage, grass to cast on, a covered picnic shelter where manufacturers can display their products, a club house where we will have fly tying, a slide show and dinner.
The main reason we are having it in late March on the Skagit River is that it is prime time for Steelhead fishing on this legendary river! Just because we will be on the Skagit does not mean we will only be doing Skagit Casting. We will include all things Spey and Two Handed.
Fishing for steelhead is something we have the option to do every day of the year in the Northwest (except during floods!). Because of the constant angling, all aspects continue to evolve. This means fly lines ranging from shortest Skagit to the long belly, sink tips, leaders, reels and a broad range in flies are being fished in a wide range of weather conditions, stream flows and types of water. This is the most dynamic part of fly fishing at this time. We hope you share our passion for pursuing fish with spey fly fishing.
All NEW Schedule
March 27, Friday, 2009
There will be small private classes (4 to 6 anglers) you can sign up for with Kaufmann Streamborn. Instructors will design and teach the classes. This a great opportunity to spend time with the best spey casters and anglers around and make casts to fish at the same time. Keep your eyes peeled for a list of classes offered. There will be no displays in the park on this day, just a focus on casting, learning and fishing. Click here for a full description of available classes.
March 28, Saturday, 2009
Rod, reel and line manufacturers will be in attendance with items on display. Casting demos/presentations will be held on the river throughout the day. The ace spey anglers will be available for assistance with casting and in answering your questions regarding all things two-handed. We have the Club House to use for fly tying demonstrations throughout the day and a slide show or two later on. There will be dinner that night at the club house. Click here for Saturday's schedule.
March 29, Sunday, 2009
This day is for fishing and casting. At this time we are not planning any casting demos on Sunday. We will have rods, reels and lines available for casting and fishing. You will be to check it out to actually take fishing for an hour or so. This is the perfect time to be able to actually fish different rods, try out various lines on your rods and fish other reels. Ace spey anglers will be available for assistance with casting and to answer your questions regarding all things spey.
